(1) Tianjin
TV & Radio Tower
The Tianjin TV & Radio Tower, built in 1991,
rises 415.2 metres above the ground. Seen from
a distance, the tower seems to pierce the sky
from a mirror-smooth lake. The revolving restaurant
on its top can serve 200 people at the same time.
It takes 45 to 60 minutes to turn round once.
To dine here, one can enjoy a bird's-eye view
of the magnificent metropolis of Tianjin. |

A Major Pass in North Jixian
Huangyaguan Pass is located at the border-line
between Beijing, Tianjin, Tangshan and Chengde.
It is a strategic site over which hostile troops
fought in numerous wars. The building of the
Great Wall in this area started in the seventh
year in the Tianbao reign-period of the Northern
Qi Dynasty some 1,400 years ago.

When Qi Jiguang, the well-known patriotic general
of the Ming Dynasty, was appointed the military governor
of Jizhou, he has under his command all the troops
stationed in Jizhou, Changping, Liaodong and Baoding.
Work on the reconstruction and expansion of this section
of the Great Wall began in 1476, the 12th year in
the Chenghua reign-period of Ming Emperor Xianzong,
and continued until the downfall of the Ming dynasty,
a period of more than a hundred years. A comprehensive
defense system consisting of parapets, mounds, watch-towers,
beacon-towers with fire-pits, the Huangy-aguan Fort
and other minor strongholds, was thus completed.
