The establishment of the Wuqing Economic Development Area was approved by the State Council in December 1991 as a high-tech industrial zone. It has become an important component of the high-tech industrial belt along the Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu expressway.

·Geographical Location:

It is located at the first exit of the Tianjin section of the expressway with a planned area of 24.8 sq.km. So far, 6.4 sq.km have developed since the opening of the zone.

·Infrastructure:

Major roads, pipelines, power cables, telecommunications, heating, water supply and for executive administration, scientific research and financial facilities, apartments with geothermal water supply, supermarkets, bilingual schools, hotels and other daily life facilities will be constructed to meet the needs of the investors.

·Industries:

The range of industries in the zone covers primarily electronics, integration of mechanics and electronics, new building materials, bio-pharmaceuticals and others in the high-tech field. As a shining point on the Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu high-tech industrial belt, nearly 290 enterprises have established themselves in the zone with a total contractual investment of over RMB 4.8 billion by the end of 1999. Enterprises from 19 countries and regions have invested in the zone with foreign contractual investment of 420 million USD.
