Throughout the entire city of
Tianjin, trees and gas are planted along the
roads and emphasis is places on street beautification
as part of a comprehensive plan. Tianjin as
one of the most advanced cities in China in
terms of maintaining city sanitation conditions.
In recent years, Tianjin has made continued
efforts in raising people's awareness of environmental
protection together with economic development.
An environmental monitoring network has been
gradually implemented in the city. Air, surface
water, noise, off-shore seawater and potential
sources of pollution are all monitored and under
control.

The quality of air has been significantly improved
in recent years. 865 wastewater processing plants
in the city can process 347 million tons of industrial
waster water, 90% of the total annually. A package
of administrative and supportive measures for legislation
on environmental protection, control and treatment
of pollution have been adopted.
The urban development of Tianjin is based on two basic
premises: modernization and internationalization.
Tianjin is striving to become a modern city with a
well protected environment by taking "First-class
city, first-class environment, modern installations
and modern administration" as its objectives.
